Great, I can hit both you guys at once:

Funky: Look the last time I saw it I was only aware of Dance Club Gay. I hadn't yet realized that two men talking like Brother Kings Of Closeness could be homosexual. I mean it's Richard the fucking Lionhearted. I'm sorry my gaydar isn't (wasn't) as well developed as your family's fag boner. Additionally: that scene is totally deadly. Best Bitches Get Owned scene I've ever seen in any movie ever, I think.

whowhatoner: It's a spin-off of zany, reference-and-allusion-packed Excel Saga, which is 26 episodes of funney except much funneyier if you have already watched a lot of anime/Japanese TV shows. With PPP you really only need to have seen like one episode each of Sailor Moon and Love Hina to catch 90% of the cliche-bashing. If you like Puni Puni Poemi you will probably also like Excel Saga, (K. Thor Jensen Approved!) Ping Pong Club, Oh! Super Milk-chan!, and one-off Animation Runner Kasumi or whatever her name is. BTW your anime dork fly is down. PPP is a mega-favorite of the hard-core anime technical community (the guys who do fansub releases and run conventions and similar Theatre Crew-like tasks.)

If you are in general really down with reference-and-allusion-packed stuff, there are a lot of legitimately good American shows and movies like The Simpsons; but my personal favorite in that class is the Christopher Lambert-in-Japan action thriller The Hunted. Why? Because it is a really shitty Christopher Lambert movie which gets interrupted by a really bad ass ninjas-versus-samurai movie at various points, with a fuckton of references to the most famous samurai and ninja movies ever released. The Hunted is a great movie-buff movie masquerading as a marginal action-adventure flick starring Joan Chen's nipples.
