Seriously, if I wasn't so goddamn lazy, I'd show you how fucked up my building's front door is. They busted the molding clear off trying to get in here. If there weren't an inner door, these four guys would have broken into my apartment. The guy at the liquor store downstairs (he got them to run off - he's got a gun, luckily) described them as 4 Latin teenagers. But who hired them?
Seriously: 4 kids tried to break into my apartment last night. The facts:
Fact #1: They've successfully broken into this bulding before, stealing money and a gun from the liquor store.
Fact #2: Though the front (inner) door is still locked, anybody over 5'6" can climb up the fire escape and come in our window.
Fact #3: Only one apartment is visible from the street, and it has a nice TV standing in front of a bay window, and a bunch of music shit in front of another window. The burglars were almost definitely going for that apartment. Which happens to be my apartment.
Fact #4: My wife commutes 2 hours each way to and from work (we live in Jersey City and she works in Marine Park, Brooklyn NY).
Fact #5: We didn't have any heat or hot water for 3 days last week, during a blizzard and its aftermath.
Conclusion: Fuck this shithole. We're moving to Brooklyn. Anybody know of any nice areas? How's Bay Ridge? We're looking for that sweet spot of real estate optimization wherein we have a huge apartment with great amenities for small amounts of money. Or at least a 1 bedroom w/ dishwasher and W/D for under $1300.
