People WERE bringing up Jack Thompson during her active years. Filing bullshit lawsuits was how Thompson made his money. Moral panic grifting was hers. The better question is "Why were the same people who bashed Thompson rushing to defend Sarkeesian when they were obviously from the same cloth?" Is it for the blatantly obvious reason? Gross money mismanagement at best, outright grift at worst. Did any of that extra $157,990 go towards any good cause? Setting up a scholarship for a single woman's CS degree would have made more of a difference than all her dumb finger waggling. Penny fucking Arcade's Childs Play produced a more concrete positive result than her.
