1. It's "semi-illegal" insofar as there's a law against it, with felony consequences, which you may avoid if you can remain in the overlapping blind spots of moneyed interests and the anti-porno-cartoon people.
   
2. Morally, your position is much worse. Copyright infringement is supposed to be a fraternistic, share-and-share-alike enterprise; seeking a profit from what you got for free makes you what's called "shit-eating scum", and should you wake up to find that Disney has licensed half of your catalogue before you had a chance to pull it, you'll not get even a slashdot story and sympathy from your customers and colleagues, much less a legal defense fund or any other form of solidarity.
