Yellowjackets is a black comedy about inept criminals. by Fullofkittens Today, 6:24am PDT The puzzle box stuff is just a macguffin. The good shit is Melanie Lynskey and Christina Ricci absolutely cooking being middle-aged suburban soccer moms that suck at covering up the fact that they're cannibals/murderers. The teen timeline is there so that they have something good to cover up. The only "mystery" is just exactly how much bad shit they did out there. You know from the first frame that they ended up chasing each other into tiger pits and barbecuing each other for cookouts. There's a little dash of "is there a smoke monster out there?" because the whole thing is a giant Lost homage. "What if Lost was a dark comedy? I guess the way to do that is to make the plane full of a high school girls' soccer team, they'd be killing and eating each other in weeks," is basically the elevator pitch for the whole show.
