He was writing a novel at the time of his death, and he hadn't yet decided whether it was going to be a Hitchhiker's Guide or Dirk Gently story. Or, presumably, if he'd lived a little longer and had any involvement in the new show, a Dr Who story. It was literally all the same for him.
