| I apologize for the reference to 'gaming goodness'.
I need help. I have one Siemens something-or-other 4-port hub/router--this is one of those "home network" dealies. It supports 4 computers. It automatically assigns IP addresses to each of the computers using a built-in DHCP server (which by default is on). It works great. Wonderful! I want to get together a small, informal LAN party, and would then need a second hub to support more than 4 users. One of my friends plans to buy a router of his own, and hopefully hook it up to my network. My question is Will this work? This is a two-parter (possibly three parts): 1. Is it possible to set up a network using two routers anyway? When I talk about routers, I mean the two above. What I really mean is "Is it possible to set up a network using one router normally and one router as a simple hub? Pt2. Will two DHCP servers (one per router) on the same network interfere with each other, or will it work ok out-of-the-box and just-plugged-in? Pt3. There's a "toggle" button on the back of the router. What is that? Maybe it depends, but I have a sneaky feeling the buttons are universal. Let me re-state this. Can I have my friend bring a router, plug in a network cable into the new router, and use it like a regular hub, or will there be problems? This is basically what I'm asking. foolio |
