I could swear someone on this site recommended this game years ago. But for the life of me I can't find the post.

Anyhoo, this game is legit excellent. It's Final Fantasy Tactics crossed with Zelda, but better.

For me the biggest flaw of Final Fantasy Tactics (and Fell Seal) is that instead of having fun jumping around with the Job system, you need to pick a certain class and level it repeatedly so you have ideal stat growth to back up your job skills. Voidspire dumps that in the trash, it's just the job system! Combat gives you XP in your chosen class that's spent directly on skills, and you pump up skill power by leveling the skill multiple times. You also occasionally get stars that can be spent on additional max HP, MP, or generic boosts to sword/lightning/etc. skills. Your characters can change class, at will, any time outside of combat. If you wanna make a fireball-chucking barehanded brawler like Street Fighter's Ryu, Voidspire absolutely lets you do it.

Combat is not instanced, it takes place directly on the map you're exploring. In fact if you're clever, you can start combat by landing the first hit on visible enemies before things switch to combat mode.

Outside of combat you're exploring the titular voidspire, solving Zelda-style puzzles like boulder sobokan, or repairing bridges with harvested wood planks, and so on. The cool thing is every one of your combat skills are available while exploring, and most have SOME kind of noncombat application, like freezing rivers with ice spells to walk across, or powering machines with a lightning spell.

Graphics are blah, but some of the music tracks are truly excellent.

Having fun, but I'm kinda impatient to finish it so I can play the sequel that just game out this year, Kingsvein!
