Caltrops - Tharsis - There is something going on with games not working, in general.

Tharsis doesn't work in a way different than the ones I am about to talk about next. Tharsis crashes when a game begins. I've had some friends say that it works on Steam and works on Epic. Not enough information to tell what is going on (though I suspect a change with nVidia drivers.)

Resident Evil 5 doesn't start for me (all of this is on Steam, I don't have an active Epic Launcher account). It somehow kills the connection for my DisplayPort, making it so I have to turn my monitor off and then on again, even after Alt-F4ing the game.

Totally at random I tried some GeneForce games, because their creator is an obviously competent programmer that has never lost his chops. I tried GeneForce 1 and 4 and got the same exact error. Unlike Capcom, I think the GeneForce guy might give a shit that this is happening.

I tried some other games, totally at random, and they did work: Darkwood, Crimsonland, GeneForce 5, Arena, Daggerfall.

I had two monitors connected via Display Ports. Even when I got back down to one, I had the same problem with RE5 and GF1 and 4. Went down from the 3xxx resolution to 25xx, same deal. Went from 120Hz to 60Hz, same deal.

I am on the nVidia ..... I forget what they call them, not the "game ready" ones, but the other ones. I am using those, because Elden Ring didn't work with the game ready driver. I guess I could switch over.

I dunno. I realize that a large part of my sanity is due to the fact that the day I hit 65 and retire, I am working my way through my Steam backlog. Bitrot from these games I've spent, collectively, hundreds if not thousands of dollars on, is messing me up a little.
