I can't delete a photo off of my iPhone by Rafiki 07/09/2024, 10:59pm PDT
I can see the photo in the photos app. I can select it, but I cannot edit or delete it. I can duplicate it and then edit or delete the duplicate, which is fucking stupid, but I can't erase the original. Like I soldered a ROM chip with the photo on it into my phone. And it's not some copyrighted or DRMed photo, it's my fucking photo. I googled around and discovered that at some point I must have transferred it onto my phone via iTunes. This may have happened; I use iTunes so infrequently I can't remember. According to guides, the way to delete the photo, aka a fucking file on my phone which has a filesystem, is to get on my PC, open iTunes, delete the photo from my iTunes library1, connect my phone to my PC, then sync with iTunes so iTunes can delete the photo for me. This is convenient somehow. "But if you don't remove it from iTunes first, it would just reupload to your phone when you synced with iTunes again!" 1) Diff has been available since 1974, 2) ligma has been available since 2018, and 3) iTunes could just put in a single prompt asking the user what they want to do with the file before just blindly copying it back to the phone, but this is somehow too technologically advanced for the world's most valuable company. If I had just taken the picture with my camera, I could delete it from my photo album like normal. But since it's a file transfer I'm blocked from managing the files on my own phone. Fucking interns designed iOS.

1This is assuming it's actually in the library. If it's not, then I guess the only way to delete it off of my phone is with neodymium magnets or a Blendtec blender.
