So it's a walking sim where you take pictures of things. Spooky things.
The author must be a big analog camera buff, since you get lots of camera filters, like "postcard," "tv grain," "chroma shift," etc.
Your main goal is to take pictures of the 12 (or whatever) sites you need to progress, but there are other things you can collect.
The art direction is nice and atmospheric. Unfortunately the author is way into making everything look like PS1 graphics, which I feel kind of diminishes the impact. (I usual admire bold artistic choices, but somehow PS1 graphics just don't "work" for me. Maybe I just don't have enough nostalgia for that era of gaming.)
The "taking a picture" mechanic is kind of cool, a nice change of pace from shooting things or pulling levers. Maybe more horror games should do this. The big flaw for me is the lack of danger (no way to die). Somehow, if there's no way to die, my lizard brain just stops being afraid at some point. Maybe it's different for other people, but for me, I need the threat of danger to really make the spooks work.
I probably will finish this, just because I like the environments. |
