It was always kind of stupid for AI doomers to work at an AI company by blackwater 05/17/2024, 2:26pm PDT Apparently OpenAI is dissolving their Superalignment team, "dedicated to managing AI risks, like the possibility of it 'going rogue'." My analysis: A lot of these doomer people joined because they figured only their special company could do AI. So if they were there at exactly the right place and the right time, they could control everything. But now it turns out that there's actual competition between Google, OpenAI, and Facebook. So they basically control nothing, and are just (correctly) seen as a liability by management. "Alignment" turned out to be making sure the AI was woke, and trying to pull up the ladder before smaller competitors could climb it. That's it. My prediction: Give it a few years and people will learn to stop shitting their pants about LLMs destroying the world. Kind of like encryption in the 1990s.
