I found the first 2/3rds of this game absolutely delightful, with the whole manual mechanic transporting me back to playing rentals on my NES.

Then I hit a brick wall and used a walkthrough, learning that what I missed was a hidden ladder in the south bridge that you couldn't see from either camera angle, and this is the first and only time the game hid an actual ladder that way.

Then I entered the quarry and the beautiful and peppy visuals turned to monochrome. Then the delightful mystery turned to grimdark. Then I found out that I was the villain all along.

I'm sick of games where you're the surprise bad guy. I've only played one (indie) game that pulled that twist well, (Immortal Defense) and all the other times it just feels like a "fuck you" from the developers. Especially in games that require hours of serious effort.

I was not willing to put in the work to solve the mountain door puzzle or chase down a bunch of goddamn fairies. 48 out of 50 pages was good enough for me in the end, and since Tunic's true ending has no boss battle at all, I don't think I lost anything by watching it on Youtube.

He thought he was re-making Zelda, but it was really Milon's Secret Castle by blackwater 03/24/2024, 9:24am PDT NEW
OK, I guess I made that joke about Milon's SC already. Sorry. Anyway... by blackwater 03/24/2024, 2:04pm PDT NEW
