THIS is what the entire country was raving about? Between this and Stranger Things, the country's Netflix opinion sucks.
Feels like it was adapted from an anime for 12 year olds. Huge swaths lifted whole cloth from As the Gods Will (right down to the final twist). Nowhere do I see the thieving hack creator give any credit to the works he blatantly copied. "It's an original work!" The only change he came up with was making the social commentary a thousand times more obvious. The only thing the show has going for it is the set design.
Fuck it. This holiday thread is getting too negative. I'm not going to close a shit door without opening a refreshing window. Starting now, I'm offering superior alternatives to all the shit entries here.
Kaiji: The Ultimate Gambler is the massively superior Squid Game. Actual clever mind games and tactics to all the games. Meanwhile, the cleverest things Squid Game could think up were "Guy figures out to lick a cookie", "Basic tug of war tips", and "Tell a total idiot to go for a walk so you can steal all his marbles". Shit for literal babies.
Netflix used to have the less good (but still way better than Squid Game) Chinese version "Animal World", but it looks like it's gone. |
