Slashdot was actually fun for a while because of the trolls. by blackwater 01/09/2023, 10:25am PST People put a lot of effort into it and there was stuff like "I do it wrong," the GNAA, all the various sneaky ways of getting dorks to click on goatse.cx. I used to like reading at -1 just to see all the dumb shit. I think at one point they even had an option to flip the moderation score so that only "bad" comments would show up, which is hilarious. Like HN, the site itself was never exactly "good." The editors moderated everything with zero nuance and most of the stories were silly clickbait. Especially any story related to science would be a bunch of clueless people talking about something they had no idea about. I haven't visited in years, but last I checked slashdot got taken over by sysadmin types. Oh I guess they're calling it "SRE" now. Whatever. Anyway these people tend to be not the brightest (otherwise why would they have such shitty jobs) and very, very opinionated. A combination which gets tiresome after a while.
