Okay, I lied. Plagary is allowed. BUT: by Emperor Zseni 01/15/2003, 3:41pm PST
The problem is with insularity. Junior Allen turned me on to a very good essay on poetry which exhorted poets to read not only their own works at open mic nights or whatever, but also to read their favorite poems. This is the way it used to be done, and then the whole reading was less of a grandstanding and more of a sharing, less a building of an isolated new literary culture and more a seamless meld with the great history of poetry.

Therefore I think it wise and good to permit other people's work to be posted here insofar as people post their favorite works by other authors, with a couple caveats:
1) I think there is a lot of literary fun to be had in answering famous poems with other famous poems &c., even as I encourage original works to be answered with other original works - but do not let history overtake and consume the present. More particularly: answer old works with new, but do not except when facing the most extreme and unfounded egotism answer new works with old.
2) Thou shalt not claim credit for old works. That plagary is still off limits.
3) Thou shalt post only uncopyrighted works or selections from copyrighted ones brief enough to fall under the guidelines of Fair Use.
4) Don't be a fag and repost the same favorite piece over and over again from month to month or whatever.
