I forgot a few.

Laibach - Life is Live originally by Opus. They take this bubblegum hand-clapping pop song and turn it into a dreary, yet oddly uplifting Communist anthem. Hearing it in their native German (titled Leben HeiÃŸt Leben) makes it sound even darker to this American. I should also mention that they do covers of Sympathy For The Devil and Jesus Christ Superstar. For those of you who like cover songs to sound very different from the original, and who don't mind dark German industrial (as in the I-can-hear-machinery-behind-the-music industrial), you should check it out.

Nirvana - Molly's Lips originally by Vaselines. I've never heard the original, because I didn't know it was a cover until I read Kurt Cobain: Journals. Shows you how much I pay attention. Maybe someone can comment on the original for me? I just know that this is one of my favorite Nirvana songs, so it would blow me away if I liked the Vaselines version better.

Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter originally by Simon and Garfunkel. Don't get me wrong, I like the original. I just find myself playing the Bangles' version more often. It expresses a greater sense of desperation in the added energy. Or something.

Marilyn Manson - Down In The Park originally by Gary Newman. Actually I can't decide if I like MM's version or Jimi Tenor's better. Yes yes, I know MM did Sweet Dreams, and also I can appreciate their version of it, but I just don't think it's better than the original.
