I had a Game Boy and then a PlayStation, and my sister got an N64 that she barely used. I bought it off her after a few months for about $100, i think. It was a great system but the games were more expensive than their disc-based counterparts if I recall correctly.
Ocarina of probably still holds the title for game I've completed most frequently (at one point I could, and did, guide friends through the water temple by memory). The sense of expansive location and exploration I experiences when first playing that is probably the reason I still love open world games today.
Goldeneye was THE best shooter of that generation. The split-screen 4 person competition was a riot for me and my friends as teens. I wonder what those guys are up to now.
Mario 64 was amazing at the time, and the nostalgia persists so that I still play it on the Switch occasionally.
Pilotwings, MarioKart, Perfect Dark, Rogue Squadron. Those were my library highlights back then. I never owned Paper Mario or Majora's mask but I've heard those are great. I only played Conker's ban fur day later and while it's impressive I suspect I would have liked it more if I'd played it back then.
Damn I feel old now, but nostalgia is a hell of a drug. |
