You can't have Dan Quinn!

NM about Dan Quinn I guess.

Yeah, I have a fear that they are going to bring some mope in that failed hilariously elsewhere before. There is talk about them promoting their defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. He was the head coach when we shut out TB 9-0 to sweep them. Logically that is what you would do, you would promote that guy. But the most exciting teams seem to be a young guy on the offensive side of things so I hope we get there eventually.

They're like $78 mil over the cap -- tons of guys are going to need to be let go. My understanding is they have almost no draft options either this year. I think only a schlub coach will take this job, and being among the bottom 5 teams for a couple years is all that can happen. But who knows! It looks pretty grim right now.

The cap thing is not a real issue. It was only a real issue this season due to the fact that the cap did not go up due to covid. They've been in "cap hell" forever and it's just not a real thing. (And even with that, this year they were one shitty Stafford pass in overtime from getting into the playoffs.) Not sure what you mean about draft options. They lost a sixth because Goodell is a piece of shit, but I expect they will receive a pick because Trey Hendrickson was signed as a FA by the Bengals. There is a local Saints writer behind a paywall that noted how the Saints could fix the 78 million with restructures, without cutting anyone.

Coach of the Saints is a good gig. Two teams in the division are absolute garbage fires and the other one will go back in hiding for 20 years after Brady retires. The Saints set an NFL record for the number of different starters in 2022 due to covid and injuries (and, again, were half a game out of a playoff spot). That won't happen again. They don't have their QB of the future on the roster right now but Winston was 5-2 as a starter, had 14 TDs to 3 picks and had a 102 QB rating when he got hurt. Now, a lot of that is due to Payton, who is gone, but they could certainly resign Winston. And the defense was probably the best Saints defense of the last 16 ironically enough. The cupboard's not bare.

I don't know anything about Denver's new coach. What's you feeling on him? I think he was the Packers' OC?
