I don't think it's forgettable. I read it as a kid, and now I've read every Sherlock Holmes story at least 3 or 4 times. It's difficult for me to think of a better story, although that's a novel-length story (there's only 4 of those) so it's harder to compare to the shorter ones.
By the way, I read The Valley of Fear (that's the second Moriarty one that hbomberguy alludes to) late because somehow I never heard of it until recently, and (spoiler) other than the fact that Holmes would have done more good not getting involved at all, that's a pretty great one. Unlike A Study In Scarlet, I recommend reading the interlude part all the way through because it's amazing. |
