I just now started watching The Wire by i dont love it? 09/29/2021, 12:35pm PDT So far it's been alright to decent. I'd watch it to pass the time and have a decent enough time, but for years I've been hearing "best show of all time" and I'm not seeing it. I forgot just how old this show is. Beepers! CRT! Windows XP! Typewriters? what? Maybe the "greatest" claim is also a reflection of its age, a claim that no longer applies in a post Breaking Bad world. Sort of like how people thought Sopranos was the deepest character study ever in 1999. McNulty makes me feel like I'm watching one of Mark Wahlberg's detective characters. Every time Herc talks, I spend the rest of the scene doing nothing but picturing Mahk. A lot of the dialog is very heavy handed (a chess metaphor monolog?). I've heard that this gets ironed out after season one though.
