Tharsis - I've won the game over 400 times, which is almost more times than I've played everything else in my library combined.
The Witness - I "finished" the game in 25 hours, and have logged over fifteen times that much since then. Still astonishing.
NoLimits 2 - The only true roller coaster designer available on PC. Not technically a game, but it sure is fun.
Banished - Still the best city builder, and still hard to believe one guy did everything.
Solar Settlers - A "Euro"-style board game, probably my most played game behind Tharsis.
Rogue - How much fun can a 40-year old text game be? Arguably as fun as anything else on this list.
Caves of Qud - Takes what Rogue started, and extrapolates into the most expansive, bewilderingly diverse, amazing sci-fi world you'll ever experience.
DOOM (2016) - I mean, it's great. The first FPS I've loved since the original.
Retrobooster - ICJ reminded me of this. The best arcade game on Steam, and the best cave-flyer that has ever been.
Elite: Dangerous - I don't play this anymore, but those were such special, amazing, unforgettable times, I couldn't leave it off.
SPECIAL MENTIONS
----------------------
Microsoft Flight Simulator - Not only did they bring it back, but they brought it back incredibly well.
Deep Sixed - a time-management, everything-is-falling-apart tongue-in-cheek space adventure, I think I liked it more than anyone else in the world.
Golftopia - Build a futuristic golf course! Don't you want to do that? Yes, you do, you just may not know it yet.
Slipways - The beta for this is available for free for the next five days. A hi-fi remake of a PICO-8 game, it's not even available for purchase yet, and it is already spectacular. Do it. |
