This really is a modern day Ultima III or IV. Very approachable - it tells you what keys do what without the endless tutorial mode most games have where they assume you don't know anything. I bought it from them directly and there is an issue with the colors not "smearing" correctly if you just click on the .exe they give you. I am playing with an emulator called AppleWin, which handles the colors correctly.
I get it if that does not do it for you. But it is a hand-crafted, original RPG. You can look and get a description of everything in there. You can talk to people (name/job for conversation starters). The first thing in the game is to get a document after a pirate tells you to and he is state aware when you get it. This is, so far, a triumph.
