I missed this when it happened last year and when I did read about it middle of 2020 I didn't want to respond if you didn't want to talk about it.
I'm not a wise person or a therapist so I don't have much wisdom to offer you other than two observations:
1: You, laudablepuss, had an extremely traumatic experience and if your work covers it or you can swing it some other way then you should absolutely talk to someone who is an expert in that.
2: If the tables were turned and your liver took a shit over a few days and your girlfriend had been the one that tried to balance regular life with what turned out to be a bigger emergency than she'd thought, and you dropped dead...would you have wanted her to spend the rest of her life beating herself up about it? I don't know you, but if you loved her, probably not, and if she loved you then...probably she wouldn't have wanted that for you either.
I'm not saying the one year anniversary of your fiance's death is the right moment to get over it, obviously it's not. I'm very very sorry that it happened and it is a very sad thing. But holding yourself responsible for her death...I guess I'm going to reiterate that I'm not a therapist and you should talk to an expert about that because I think it might help. |
