Anyway Dvorak later found out the reason he was actually fired was because of his 5G column. A listener to one of his two podcasts noticed that older column had recently been deleted from PCmag.com, and also many gushing articles about 5G had been posted recently. Dvorak has freely explained his gimick (along with Inside Track) has always been to just look into the trend or gadget or story and find the cynical angle. He's the Cranky Geek, and in his 5G article he didn't even offer a negative opinion himself, just quoted a bunch of negative takes from places around the web. One day he gets a form email about staff being let go, with a promise he could ask to come back in a year.
He's right to be cranky about some stuff in an aggregate. I got 18 months out of the ipad that I bought before it stopped being able to run new apps. 18 months! Less than the time it takes to make two twins in utero. |
