Gamers' Perks, or 'Playola'?

I saw someone mention this, I found it by digging up an old Qt3 topic that was also mentioned here. It's from 2002, so there's some actual competence in the article. And of course, even in 2002 Chet and the other Qt3 fags were trying to laugh it off.

This'd get shot down at the pitch stage today, Totilo/Grayson/Schreier/Klepek et al. being Gawker alumni buys game journos a lot of slack. And all the rags are too invested in the narrative at this point.

Plus, the gender studies departments have conquered all mainstream publications, and they look out for their fellow progs. All pop culture is a battlefield now, especially "geek" culture, and they need all the allies they can get.
