The really old shit like 1980s Nintendo carts has aged well. Mario and Sonic and most of the old NES games still hold up today.
The PS1 was in this phase where everything was 3d, but it was a really ugly, low-polygon count type of 3d. I don't have a lot of nostalgia for that console era, really. It just felt like everyone was racing towards better graphics, and not paying that much attention to gameplay. People were still figuring out what worked well in 3d, and there were a lot of really awkward attempts to shoehorn 3d into existing genres.
I have nostalgia for some of the games from back then, like Metal Gear Solid 2 (yes, I know it was PS2, not 1...) or Resident Evil. But honestly, I would rather play remakes of those games than play them on the original hardware. That mid-1990s 3d just looks like someone's student project in compuer graphics. |
