While the number of murders has gone up every year, it is conceivably possible that video games with very high resolution death sacenes, especially of enemies, may acually help reduce the actual death toll. The video games, with high resolution, may provide enough of a realistic environment where a killing occurs that it may bring down the propensity of some people to commit murders or violent acts. So it might be that the games do act as "murder simulators," in the sense that the simulation is good enough that it allows someone to harmlessly inflict their sadistic desires on the NPCs in a video game instead of actual people. |
