Oh cool, another kingdom with 80 Power Moons???
I'm only at ~300 Power Moons and got about 220 of those through the core plot line, so I undoubtably haven't even started with the really lame challenges.
Pros:
Cappy is fun and the enemy-possessing puzzles are enjoyable (although probably not great game design).
The challenges zones are really good.
The general reward structure of "if you can get there (you can), there is a Power Moon or a pile of coins" is still good.
I liked running around as Mario 64's Mario.
This points to the fact that the right way to do the collectables is to do what the best parts of Mario 64 did, which was to present a giant jungle gym with rewards for doing stuff the designers thought was cool, however you wanted to do it.
Cons:
The game is probably too big.
Mario's move set is too huge
No one has 1000 good ideas.
They have somehow added GRINDING to a Mario game. This element feels more like a freemium game.
Rafiki's rating makes complete sense, but I haven't played a Mario in a while and they are just so polished. I'll go 9/10 with the caveat I need to find a Wii U so I can try Super Mario 3D World. |
