Leaving Apple for PC by Former poster 05/08/2018, 4:49am PDT
I've spent the last 16 years on Macs at home and usually at work. These machines are junk.

iBook ~2002: logicboard failure, Apple replaced everyone's after an impending class action lawsuit, failed again. I also had to replace a bundle of wires that drove the monitor because the ridiculous design of the hinge led to them shearing apart over time

Snowglobe iMac (work): Logicboard fried in poorly, IIRC.

MacBook ~2006: this still runs! But always had fan/overheating issues. I opened it up many times to deal with shit.

iMac ~2011 (work): Logicboard issues, was insanely hot to the touch.

MacBook Pro 2012 (early): I had an audio interface that used FireWire that I wanted to keep using. This was my only option. Also this was the real start of dongle-based computing and I didn't trust the new MacBook. This machine has graphic chip based panics, the cable that connects to the HD failed once, the Logicboard is fucked up and thinks the RAM isn't seated because (apparently) if you pick up the laptop on the sides too much, the case flexes and damages the thing. All this machine does now is refuse to turn on. It just beeps. If reseat the RAM it might work again for like 20 mins.

I'm sure I've had a few more of these pieces of shit. It is time for a new computer and all the Macs are garbage, as best I can tell. There are some rumors we'll see a new Mac Pro (probably that cylinder in rose gold) and some assorted lame upgrades at WWDC but I think I don't give a shit about these things anymore. The industrial design is terrible, the software I used to love is incomprehensible, everything has a smug, underpowered sheen to it.

I basically want a PC MacBook Pro. I want to be able to do occasional development, graphic design, music production, and some gaming. I'll miss the UNIX command prompt but whatever. I have a work Mac, so I can still use Omnigraffle, literally the only piece of software that was holding me back from switching at this point. I have heard good things about the XPS 15. Thoughts?
