Loblaw's is offering a $25 gift card to anyone who has ever bought bread at one of their stores (including the Real Canadian Superstore, among others). No proof of purchase necessary.

Save-On-Foods is matching the offer with a $25 credit of their own. You may need a More Rewards card to claim this credit, I don't know (I already had one because they're free at the checkout). Again, no proof of purchase necessary.

Watch this thread for additional gift card opportunities as they develop.
BREADGATE
Here is the worst article about Breadgate I have read thus far. It starts from the premise that since Loblaw's colluded to more than double the price of bread over the last 15 years, you may as well spend the pittance they're offering as compensation in a way that will cost the treacherous supermarket chain the most money possible. The author believes the way to do this is by spending your $25 gift card on high-margin items - the items on which a grocery store makes the most profit, and by extension the items for which they pay the least, comparatively. If you see a problem with this logic, congratulations! You are smarter than the dumbest man in Canada, who apparently writes for Maclean's Magazine now. Also smarter than the dumbest man in Canada: the two experts he quotes in the very same article, both of whom advise specifically AGAINST purchasing high-margin items.

Another possibility, too terrifying to consider: the author is stupid like a fox. What if Loblaw's's tendrils extend even into the hallowed halls of Maclean's Magazine? What if the author is getting TWO $25 gift cards to stab his readers in the back of the brain, the part of the brain responsible for experiencing anger at obviously and patently wrong economic advice in respected national publications? I find this possibility unlikely, since it would require the author to understand that more money would be better for him than less money, an ability I am no longer convinced he possesses.

Excellent response time on emergency forum creation btw.
