As an aside, how did Castlevania ascend to get half credit for the non-linear platformer trope when two Metroids were released far before Symphony of the Night?
It's certainly handy that we have this single word to describe the feature, and I guess that probably answers my question. But even Mega Man games were non-linear platformers where you build your character up to allow you to re-tackle harder/impossible levels. |
