Had a slight buzzing sound coming from my laptop on Friday. Tilting it up then back seemed to stop it. Planned on opening it up for some duster the next day. Figured it was a fan that might need to be replaced.
Friday night, lots of loading took forever then a screeching buzzsaw. Couple seconds later everything just froze. Fuck, figured the fan totally got fucked and it was a heating issue.
Tried booting it up 3 hours later. Immediate screen saying boot device not found. More buzz saw. Fuck. Opening up revealed it was the hard drive making the noise.
While fucking around with it open, I turned it on while it was upside down. Zero noise. Booted up just fine. Everything runs great. Tilting even slightly gets the buzz saw sound back.
So now I'm running the thing with the cover open, hard drive out on the table turned upside down. Everything's working fine for now but I'm looking into replacing the thing tomorrow.
What the hell though? It's a solid state drive. I thought the whole point to the things was no moving parts. |
