I think the main thing here is that it's actually stage based, unlike most twinstick shooters which are survival based slogs or multiple levels of survival based slogs. So rather than just managing endless waves of shit you're actually deciding what bonuses you go for first, how to eliminate enemies, how fast or slow to go and this can all change based on what weapon or power ups you have.

I'd say pretty much all annoyances you can have with these games are gone? The super weapon cycles so you only get caught with something you don't like through your own fault, sometimes it's better to get triple dash early but again your own fault if that gets you killed. The scoring maps consist of the map normally, the map with a 4 minute limit, and the map where everything moves faster including you.

All the secrets are actually fun and discovering them as you go since it causes you to rethink strategies and make decisions. At some point you're probably going to look at a map for them but until that point it's sort of nice to find them on your own.

I really like the way the survivor multiplier feels since it encourages you to space out rescuing them and move very fast at the beginning of every stage. I had a lot of fun with Geometry Wars but it's nice to have something that's taking what seems to be a long overdue step.
