Great game that unfortunately - like Tharsis - is going to get savaged on Steam because so many of the customers on Steam are idiots.

The developers initially locked some controls and unlocked them by having you play a series of games in Story Mode that introduced the controls. 90% of their customers (and I want to stress this is a $12 game) wanted them to basically port whatever shitty EA Sports hockey game they last played to the PC. They did not do this.

You're going to read a lot of bullshit about the game if you look at the forum for it. There's two legitimate issues:

1) No one-timers
2) Sometimes your CPU-controlled guys don't move towards the puck when the puck is just sort of sitting there

Other than that, pretty much everything that is being complained about is bullshit. A lot of people whining about "laggy" play, but I am telling you, I have the worst computer of anyone at Caltrops and the thing is flawless.

The devs changed the game with a patch to immediately unlock controls. I kind of liked that, for the first time in 30 years of playing hockey computer games, I had a crappy, underpowered hockey team that couldn't do anything at first. The classic "bad computer hockey team" is the Ottawa Senators in like NHL 92 or 93. Before Yashin arrived. You could still score 100% of the time if you deked left and shot right. In Old Time Hockey (in story mode) (before the patch) you have a team that is legitimately bad because they couldn't poke check or cross check for the first game. That's amazing. It's daring!

They got savaged for it in the Steam ratings. Steam is so so so very terrible for anyone trying something new. It is an absolute pox on innovation attempts.

I need to stress that it's $12. A guy named Clone wrote the following manifesto about a game that was twelve bucks that he also got a refund for:

Clone Mar 29 @ 12:29am
10 days before I request refund
Hi Dev's,

Looks like you might have a nice little hockey game here but, 17 minutes into testing it, using the 'Konami' cheat to test the "Advanced Controls" (I want to know what hockey feels like in your game, not push buttons I'll never use in a long tutorial. I need to know what your game feels like so I can know whether I actually want it).

Well, so far it feels like garbage, because my right analog stick doesn't work. This is on a standard microsoft Xbox 360 wireless controller that fails in no other game. The right trigger also appears to do nothing. I confirmed it to be working in the control panel.

And, after my 4th exhibition game trying to get this game to work. I encountered the "game-rate" bug everyone is talking about. Suddenly everything was in slow-motion. It wasn't a slow frame rate, everyone just seemed to be playing hockey under water. Your game-loop must be tied to something with strange timing.

So, this seems like a hastily thrown together game at this point. It appears there may be some neat ideas, and I hope you release a patch that is sensible in giving the user control options that work, as well as fixing whatever timing issue is making your game feel like everything is floating. 15 USD is quite a bit to this poor Canadian, even if I would sacrifice my first born for good hockey on the PC again.

Need your assurances, that you are passionate and dedicated to making this a great game. I have marked a refund date on my calendar to remind me how much time I have and I'll be reading patch notes and trying to stay under the 2 hour limit. Hockey needs to come back to the PC desperately, but are you the people to do it? Show me.

Win764,8gb,GTX660 - no problems in any other games ever.

Can you imagine such entitlement over a $12 game? I paid $150 for Elite and pinback and I couldn't find each other a year after release, I didn't complain about it anywhere but a post here. (Where, frankly, there is no chance of Braben coming within a million hops of it.) What a bunch of fucking babies.

It's a great game.
