Got it. Definitely better than 2. by fabio 02/11/2017, 11:37am PST
+Combat is a lot better. Parrying is theoretically worth it now but I have to actually use it without being stunned.

+inventory management is better than the nightmare that was 2's.

+most quests involve solving some mystery with a modest twist to it

-the story still revolves around some in medias res shit they don't really explain to you. In 2 it was "who the fuck is Yennifer and why should I care?". Here it's the Wild Hunt.

-I'm not sure the open world sandbox aspect really works. Too many trees and obstacles that trip up horse travel and you have no idea what the question marks on the map are going to be. Not even a required level indicator. A quick full screen mini-map button is the bare minimum you need for a sandbox game to work. Too many button presses for the map and quest cycling and the map takes too long to load.

-It seems like you're underleveled most of the time. I've been doing 2/3rds of all the side quests I've found on notice boards and I'm still constantly 2-5 levels behind all the enemies and quests showing up. The game is really not obvious on what gives you xp outside of completed quests (50xp for a quest when it takes 1000 to level up?). It's hampering the open world exploration since the enemy level layout is really badly designed. You're constantly running into areas of interest where the enemy levels are several higher than the quests you get that brought you to the area.

-Like 2, I've quickly given up on crafting and alchemy completely. It's still way too much of a fucking headache (you have to craft crafting components now?) for the slight possibility of getting a better piece of equipment quicker, and it rarely gives you the numbers on potions effects so you can't tell if they're worth it. +10% damage for fiddling around with oils might be worth it in a slogfest RPG, but in an action game where every enemy dies in 5 hits anyway what's the point? I've just been immediately selling every alchemy and crafting component I find and using the money to buy whatever equipment shows up at shops, resigned to the fact that I might be missing out on something 10% better after hours of dicking around with crafting.

-Is there any point to bothering with strong attacks? They barely do any more damage than weak attacks and take twice as long to swing. I put 2 points into the weak attack upgrade and they now do the same damage as strongs.

-WHERE ARE THE TITS? There hasn't been a single tit so far yet they've thrown in TWO early scenes of oiled up Geralt taking a bath. Did Roel Reine direct this?

-Speaking of tits, after constantly listening to "Must save beloved Yennifer!" in the 2nd game (and being reminded of that this one), turns out she's terrible! She's like Morrigan from Dragon's Age without any personality. Easily the worst woman character in any witcher game yet the plot revolves around her being Geralt's entire world.
