At the end of 3 you can save her father or not save her father. If you save her father, the whole timeline is altered and you wind up in the cool kids club, her parents stay together, she ends up being paralyzed in a car accident, wheelchair bound with a tube in her throat, an expensive hospital setup in her house where the garage was, all of her friends abandoned her, and her parents are in so much debt they're going to lose the house.
I remember getting MISSION FAILED TRY AGAIN every time you failed to prevent the father from driving, until you saved him and you got the Chloe is paralyzed element. FATE IS A CONSCIOUS ENTITY AND WILL FIND A WAY TO FUCK OVER ALL THE MARKED ONES.
That's what screwed the game. It went from using the rewind power to gain insight and empathy towards even the most hateable characters, then pissed it all out the window turning it into Final Destination: Tumblr edition in the last 2 chapters.
Know what was a far more effective moment than that entire Chloe paralyzed bit? Max takes the bus to her house in the alternate timeline, and there's "Step Douche" driving the bus. Saving her father had the logical consequence of that guy not finding happiness getting together with her mother, and now he's a sad alone bus driver.
That was such a more effective and logical outcome than the ham handed predestination paralysis bullshit.
The idiocy of that part is turned up to 11 for the ending. |
