A "huge new patch", including the following:
Bug fixes galore
PINBACK RESPONDS: I only ever found one bug in the original game, and you'd have to actively attempt to find it, as it had zero effect on normal gameplay. I don't know if that one's fixed, but during my one (1) playthrough of this "huge new patch", I had two dice land on their corners, and just sit there magically balancing above the playfield. Also when I'd drag dice around, they'd often disappear. SURVEY SAYS: [ X ]
A completely revamped tutorial
PINBACK RESPONDS: Also, the first time you play the patch, you get to sit through interminable, unskippable "tip" messages during your first game, even though it knows you've already played the game 499 times. I'm clicking and pounding away at the thing (with the new, giant, horrifically ugly cursor they added) trying to skip through it, but nope. Just sit there. SURVEY SAYS: [ XX ]
Research mechanic now more streamlined and easier to understand
PINBACK RESPONDS: This is another way of saying "when you put dice in research, the dice have little "science" icons on them, rather than their pips." Which is great, except it's terrible, because now you can't see at a glance which slots you have filled up, because they all look the same, so you have to count, hmm, do I have one in the four slot? One, two, th.. nope! It may be "easier to understand" in the sense that "oh, a science icon means science, I get it!", but it's harder to work with, and terrible. SURVEY SAYS: [ XXX ]
But really, these are minor, somewhat forgivable quibbles. And then we get to:
Smoother difficulty curve in Normal mode
PINBACK RESPONDS: They did it. They made it easy mode. Any reasonably experienced player would now have to INTENTIONALLY TRY to lose the game on Normal. Normal, perhaps the most brilliantly balanced setup in gaming history, and they just ripped it out and put fucking BABY MODE in there. Smoother difficulty curve my big fat pimply ass. This ruins the game, and I have already uninstalled because of it. Couldn't have just put in an "easy" mode there, eh? Had to just say, hey, this is absolutely perfect and wonderful, let's just get rid of it because a bunch of drooling retards couldn't figure it out in the first five minutes! Now, obviously, this is all just trying to salvage a commercial failure of a product to get ready to move it to mobile and hopefully suck a few more bucks out of it, which, I don't begrudge anyone trying to make a buck, but for those few fans of the PC game that there were, it's a travesty and an embarrassment.
RIP Tharsis. |
