I want to preface this by saying how much I don't care about this even though I will go off on a nerd's rant about it. Sulu's gay, great. Batman can shoot people and Daredevil can throw people into trains, none of it matters in movies.
To some degree it would be nice to see a fellow fag in Star Trek or Star Wars, but just deciding that a long-established character is gay now is a bit much. J.J. Abrams's original proposal for the new Trek breathlessly stated how amazing it would be if Scotty was a girl, whcih would have eliminated Pegg from ever being in it. Not quite the same thing but I resent the fact that you can apparently decide to be gay or a girl now this new timeline. I knew I was gay when I was 11 and it wasn't because of some Romulan incident. I'd like to think that I'd be gay in any timeline.
It would be nice if they introduced a new character going forward to take the spot of Chekov and if he or she were homosexual that'd be cool with me. Lt. Hawk was supposed to be gay according to some stuff I've read about First Contact. Beefy!
