Beat the 2nd boss, made it into the second area.
PROS:
-I'm still not tired of huge sprawling gothic castle cities that From Software puts in all of their games, and High Wall of Lothric is more of that and is neat.
-Enemies are still challenging and still have varied, surprising move sets. I haven't died yet, but that's more to do with how cautious I've been and how willing I've been to retreat back to a bonfire and reset my health and Estuses. I've come close to dying several times.
-They continue their "If you can see it, you can probably get there" level design.
-You still get a sense of making progress by unlocking shortcuts
-They've further refined the stat sheet and made it more obvious what is affected by each stat. When you select a stat in the level-up menu, it highlights everything in the character sheet that could potentially be affected. It doesn't look like there's any useless stats, other than maaaaybe luck, which affects item drops. I guess if you want a ton of items or you can only get rare items this way, then it might be worth putting points into
-Firelink Shrine is a nice callback to Demon's Souls world hub
-The blacksmith is right in the shrine from the start, instead of being hidden halfway across the fucking world or requiring an unlock
-It looks like it's locked at a 60fps upper limit, and I've yet to see it dip below 50fps. I have all of my settings maxed, and it is completely smooth
UNSURE:
-You have two Estus flasks now, one for health and one for restoring mana. They have a shared total of uses, and you can visit the blacksmith to change the usage allocation at any time depending on your character needs
-magic and ranged, since I'm not using these. I did use a crossbow I picked up a couple of times, and now you have to press attack once to reload and a second time to fire
CONS:
-I cannot for the life of me figure out how to equip items to the item quick-menu. There's a second semi-quick-menu that you press start to access, but that leaves you wide open to attack. I'm not sure it's even possible to equip any items to the quick menu like every other game. Instead, that slot is entirely dedicated to Estus flasks.
-I ran into a glowing red-eyed enemy like Demon's Souls, but it was a total pushover. Shit, rolling into it knocked it off balance >:( I'm going to assume it's a trainer enemy since there was no choice but to engage it
-They didn't bring back world tendency ;_; |
