I had time to play it for 10 minutes. You walk 3 feet and it looks like there's a boss fight. I did not engage the boss.
So far: It is pretty, the aggressive use of gray notwithstanding, but I've always liked the dreamy storybook quality these games have had.
The tutorial aka the first 3 feet is short and abrupt, so it's probably a steep learning curve for new players. There's messages on the ground that tell you the controls, you have to fight enemies pretty much immediately, there's a bonfire, the aforementioned boss, and a bigass enemy right at the start that you're not equipped to deal with that they explicitly tell you not to fight but don't prevent you from engaging.
I wish more games trusted people to not get frustrated and give up so easily, and had as thoughtful a combat system. I rolled a warrior, so I don't have a bow or magic. I'd be interested to hear if ranged attacks are still a big advantage over melee (which I think is way more fun). |
