If you didn't like the core combat gameplay at all, it's more of that with everything around it improved. And really improved, in a few cases.

This is not a game that expects you to beat it and move on. Firaxis have created a truly modernized old-school PC game. The campaign isn't some fluffy intro for multiplayer like most PC games, it's old school. You are to play again and again and again. So they let you export your customized badasses and recruit them again next game as rookies, a great feature. There are lots of differences between the skill levels. I found you can start a campaign on legendary and drop the skill level back for a more hybrid difficulty as some things stay tough but the enemies have normal health again. And then they're all-in with modding support. The Longwar guys had some interesting looking mods ready for release day. One adds a Leader class, which I'm going to have to try next game.

I'm foreseeing putting hundreds of hours into this, easily.

It's got Terror from the Deep difficulty on some missions, but I'd give it 8/10 NT by Rey Mysterio Jr. 02/07/2016, 5:28pm PST NEW
