| They're all the same flavor as what Tharsis looks like: random crises every turn that a team has to manage together. You'll probably be into these:
Pandemic- Everyone plays medical experts running around the globe finding the cures to killer diseases before humanity is wiped out. I'm not a huge fan of this one, but it tends to be the most popular because chicks can get into the theme. Arkham Horror- Everyone is a Lovecraft investigator going around Arkham, Massachusetts recreating a 1920s version of In the Mouth of Madness. Players have to manage portals and monsters popping up and defeat the ancient one before it wakes up. This was the game that introduced me to the genre. It was fun back in the day, but has been made obsolete by Eldritch Horror. Eldritch Horror- The globe trotting, completely superior version of Arkham Horror. Space Alert- Crew members manage random crises that threaten to destroy the ship. The twist is that the crises pop up at the command of an audio cd that's playing and players have to respond as it keeps going. Each player lays out commands for his dude and only at the end do you carry out their actions to see if you survived. The one thing this game does is solve the usual "quarterback problem" co-op games tend to have where the most experienced person plays for everyone else, since everyone is focused on what their own dude is doing. I wasn't a huge fan of this one just because it felt like you were writing a computer program and hitting "compile" at the end to see if it worked, then you lose because you forgot a comma somewhere. |
