I also have a girl who is basically just a dependent. No income for two years, no prospect for income. In my case, she has (shhhhh! Nobody tell her!) somatic symtom disorder. Plus some other real things but critically, that. And it's still real -- in my head the conversation goes, "you can't say psh, that disease is all in your liver! No big deal! Well it's in her mind but that just means it cannot be treated the way she expects (tons of medication)." When I was working I'd get angry texts all day that I didn't care enough, have to do everything around the house when I got home -- been at least a year since she walked the dogs herself, and I'd pray that she didn't pick midnight to start a fight about whatever because I NEED TO FUCKING SLEEP. Que the subject for tomorrow's angry texts.
Things *have* gotten better in some ways. But I worry. Can I convince her to get therapy? Will the stuff we're doing continue to work for her? When I start working, will she be able to go to her appointments on her own? She used to tell me "jobs come and go" but if I loved her then blahblah. At least that song is dead now, except the last bit.
I complain a lot but I do love her and she and I will get better. It's just tough.
*God help me, she woke up as I was typing this and asked if I was talking to a girl?! Do you want to get rid of me? No honey, geeze. |
