Do as Roop says, get your town and armor and shit on the main quest immediately. Don't miss Dogmeat at the gas station.
6 CHA. You want 6 CHA. Local leader perk for linked settlement bank is great. You need to assign someone to a trade route at every settlement to set up the linkage, though. You can also easily get +4 CHA off head + glasses + body slots, turning you into bartering diplomatic machine.
Speaking of settlement banks, your settlements run on the junk you pick up. Even a fucking coffee cup is useful (CERAMIC, BITCH)
Shit in your settlement bank can be used to craft with at crafting stations
There is a +1 SPECIAL book under your son's crib. Don't miss it.
+1 Perception bobblehead is sitting right by your militiaman at the first main quest location, don't miss it (you'd probably need to be blind)
I think the +2 CHA dress I was wearing I found in your hometown
Don't sprint in Power Armor. Any action that uses AP drains power armor battery
I regretted not taking my power armor along to Corvega Assembly Plant. Fucking laser guided molotovs.
Find a new weapon with a load of mods you like? Is it the same base type as your existing modded weapon? Just swap the mods back to the standard in the original weapon, freeing up what you built, and apply the mods to the new weapon. Alternately, craft the cheap base mod of the new weapon to free up the new mod, and transfer that back to the old weapon.
I am so happy with the crafting system in this game. It's like a controllable Borderlands.
