| Though this is my third party and I noticed there's a very fine line you have to walk between fun and effective setups. I think for me, having skills tick up soooooo slowly up to level 30 and knowing that I'm stuck upgrading the same stuff for half the game to keep pace really turned me off. I also think that for a game like this, I would have been happier with set items in set places instead of random drops and chests.
That being said, I definitely feel like every fight is solid and fun and satisfying once you get enough accuracy and speed in. I still much prefer a good old fashioned Jeff Vogel cRPG (but before he cleaned everything up with the new skill trees). I know those are just as simple in terms of being locked into a single build for each character, but the exploration and secret rooms and non-randomized loot make up for it. |
