NIGHTSIDE: "Classic" indie RTS, released yesterday, on sale for $14 at Steam. Rough around the edges, obviously an indie effort, and in DESPERATE need of graphical optimization. Resource gathering is simplified to one (1) resource, which powers everything. "Streamlined" is the polite way to put it. I would not recommend it to anyone here, as you'd probably kill it. HOWEVER, the one great thing it does, and the reason it's called "Nightside", is that it presents a compelling alien world bereft of sunlight. The entire map is dark, except around your units and buildings, which are the only light sources in the game. It's an interesting gimmick, which looks strikingly beautiful and appropriately eerie, even while your GPU struggles to keep up.
I'd recommend it if the gimmick and look of it appeals to you and you are an RTS junkie.
ACT OF AGGRESSION: Triple-A spiritual successor to C&C: Generals, by Eugen (creators of RUSE and the Wargame series). In beta, set for September release. Now this is more like it. Gorgeous maps, great effects of tanks and helicopters blowing shit up, while still retaining the "classic RTS" feel. If you liked C&C: Generals, this is essentially a must-buy, unless your ass is poor. Pre-orders get a discount, so if you trust me, and this sounds like your kind of thing, might as well jump on it now.
