Search in general: A regression from Windows 7. I used to be able to hit the win key to open the start menu, then type "add rem" to get the add/remove programs control panel bit to pop up. NOT ANYMORE! What I get is "Add or Remove Device" and nothing else. The fuck? If I type "Add or", then Add or Remove Programs pops up as #1 with several other matching options, including Add or Remove Devices. The fuck?
I was searching for Windows Update, and here's what I discovered when it didn't pop into my results right away. There's 2 sets of search results: the real-time ones that pop up in a short list as you're typing, and what you get when you press the enter key.
Typing in "windows u" gives "Windows Update settings" and "Advanced Windows Update options" as the only 2 results. "Windows up" returns a whole slew of results with just the word "up," with "Windows Update settings" completely removed and "Advanced Windows Update options" halfway down the list. "Advanced Windows Update options" is the only result for "windows upd" and it's not until you fully type in "windows update" that the basic settings result reappears. HOWEVER, if you press enter on, say, "windows upd" it will actually open the Windows Update panel.
I tried your "add rem" search and didn't even get ANY results, and pressing enter just returned a bunch of text files with that text apparently. Typing in "add or" returned "Add or Remove Programs" and a few other results, none of which were "Add or Remove Devices." Typing in "Add or " (note the space after or) returned the exact same list, except with "Add or Remove Programs" replaced by "Add or Remove Devices."
WE'RE NOT FUCKING DONE YET
"control panel" returns Nvidia's control panel, but not the Windows one. Hitting enter actually brings up the control panel, though. I typed in "steam" and got zero automatic results, so I hit enter for it to actually search. I got some random text files that were chat logs that apparently mentioned steam, the Steam folder in the Start Menu (the physical folder location on the hard drive), but not the application itself.
Windows search should just return ¯_(?)_/¯
Edge Again
In IE, you can drag a tab to detach it from the current browser window and open it in a new browser window. The new window will appear right where you drop the tab. I liked this feature and I used it all of the time. Edge doesn't do it. You can drag a tab to detach it, but it displays the red "prohibited" circle and when you release the tab it opens a window in some default location on the desktop. |
