PRIMER SUCKS by Fussbett 04/27/2005, 1:22am PDT
I'm not a smart person. I didn't know that to increase force you can increase cosine(theta). Hell, I didn't even know you could also increase mass or acceleration, and I'm so lazy, I didn't look up the ascii code for the theta character. However, I'm very good at watching movies, and Primer is a bad movie.

Primer fails at basic storytelling. By the end of Primer I had a lot of questions. Not questions about the human condition or what is the good, but questions about basic plot elements like who I was looking at on the screen. I voiced my concerns by saying "what the fuck is going on?" and my girlfriend, a fellow stupid, said "I don't know. I think those are the doubles." I guess if you like to work for your entertainment, helping the writer unravel his half-story, maybe Primer is for you. Me, I prefer to enjoy movies.

Before seeing Primer I heard about it being a throwback to the good old days of sci-fi where special effects were eschewed in favour of IDEAS!!! Primer's IDEA is time travel paradox (not bravely tackled since Back to the Future) instead of strong writing. I'd also like to point out that I understood and loved every second of The Day the Earth Caught Fire.

Primer was made for $7000, so it was a roaring financial success. It looks good because the movie is all about engineers talking so it was an achievable goal, though I did detect a massive amount of audio "looping", which I won't even explain because Primer fans are so goddamn smart.
