Holy shit! This is simultaneously the game I always wanted Nethack to be and the game I always wanted Diablo to be.

Fuck concerns about food. In fact, fuck consumables entirely! Every item, spell, and magic tatoo in the game has unlimited uses, and you can rest and restore all your HP and SP as often as you want! Does all this make the game a pushover? Fuck no! This game is all about the best part of roguelikes: nail-biting turn-based positional combat.

And yet! The game is as easy to control as torchlight. What's more, you can just hit the "z" button and your dude will automatically scour the map for treasure until he bumps into a monster. Just mouse over said monster to get a popup explaining its stats, or right-click on the monster to see every single one of its stats in detail. You would be well advised to do this because Tales of Maj'Eyal is brutal as fuck by peppering dungeons with a random sprinkling of monsters that far outclass your dude in levels.

It's technically open source freeware, but "buying" it off gog or steam like I did gives you an extra character class and access to a shared stash. Continued development is also supported by paid-for DLC.

Give it a try!
